If you are a fan of Dark Side of the Moon cozy mysteries, you'll see Carolyn and Mike working cases in smaller venues. A stolen figurine from a nativity scene, women being poisoned by roses and a disappearing death mask all feature in these short mysteries featuring our favorite moon-based sleuths.
If you haven't yet tried one of the novels, here's a chance to get acquainted with Carolyn Masters, former FBI profiler, currently reserved professor of 20th Century pop history and Michael Cheravik, former Dallas homicide detective, and currently Criminology professor at Armstrong University in the small town built underground on the moon at the end of the 21st Century.
The skills of the detectives are put to the test not only dealing with a smarter than average criminal, but also having to cope with living on a rock that has only 1/6 the gravity of Earth. You might say Luna herself is the third main character in the stories.
Blending Science-fiction and cozy mysteries, Terri Main brings together two of the most enduring literary genres. If you are a cozy mystery fan or a sci-fi geek, you'll find something to enjoy here.
In addition to the short stories, you will find excerpts from the two previously published novels Dark Side of the Moon and Stormy Weather as well as a sneak peak at two novels to be released this spring Fangs for the Memories and Landing day.
Lunar Calendar Short Cozy Mysteries and More Dark Side of the Moon Mysteries eBook Terri Main
After having read "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "Stormy Weather", I was looking forward to a book full of short stories about the same characters. I was somewhat disappointed to find that it contained only 5 very short stories. The rest of the selections were excerpts from the two novels I had already read and a couple of upcoming ones. From my perspective there were only about 70 pages of new material and part of that was the previews of two new novels.I am still looking forward to the two new novels previewed in the excerpts. However, if you have already read the first two novels, "Lunar Calendar" may not be as interesting as the novels were.

Lunar Calendar Short Cozy Mysteries and More Dark Side of the Moon Mysteries eBook Terri Main Reviews
Lunar Calendar Short Cosy Mysteries
I took this practically at random. It was a good choice.
Basically it's my favourite genre; short stories of fairly hard science fiction / crime whodunit with a plot driven by people and their driving passions (good and bad).
No space opera, no magic, no dei ex machina to fix plot holes, and the author always plays fair, you could have guessed the answer to the crime if you had been smart enough.
It's very much on the vein of some of Asimov's stuff, down to the very human Holmes/Watson couple of sleuths. I'd recommend it.
Niggles? A couple, but if you let these stop your enjoyment of the book, then you're a pedant who doesn't deserve to read it.
- If distances are in Km in this future world, shouldn't temperatures be in oC?
- If the society is a former colony of the Earth government (not just of the United States), why does everyone celebrate Thanksgiving, which is basically a North American institution?
There's also a few sample trailers for the author's other novels, which seems a reasonable marketting approach.
I just finished reading this delightful little tome and enjoyed every moment. As a solid fan of this series of books, I was glad to see additional stories that further illuminate the Dark Side of the Moon's characters and landscape. It was fun re-reading the excerpts from books I have already read and even more fun to catch a glimpse of future installments. You will not regret this purchase.
I enjoyed this. The short, cozy mysteries set on the moon invited me back into the world of Mike and Carolyn and made me want to read more. I definitely recommend it if you want a short break from reality with some well-plotted stories. They reminded me of reading old science fiction short stories and cozy mystery short stories. There are also excerpts from the author's other works for those who might be interested. This was a freebie and a no-brain buy for me, and I'll likely be buying the author's next mystery in this series, too.
